Xbox 360 Rumor Control, Smaller Design, Blu-Ray Drive And Others
There is a rumor floating around the internet that the Xbox 360 will be slimmed down. In a way, the Xbox 360 has already been shrunk down from it’s original 2005 model (the Xenon motherboard), and continues to do so everyday even though it might not be apparent. As VentureBeat reports, Microsoft looks for new ways to cut down its costs (in the form of compact, efficient motherboards) and passes on to consumers in the form of price cuts. After Xenon came Falcon, followed by Zephyr which sports an HDMI connector. The latest this year will be Jasper, which features a 65nm IBM microprocessor as well as a 65nm graphics chip from ATI/AMD.
The same article from MaxConsole says that “[another] model should have the CPU+GPU Combo Dye”. That “model” is code named Valhalla. That board will have a single chip that combines both the processor and the graphics chip on a single device and isn’t expected until 2009 at the earliest. But a Wii-like small factor Xbox 360 isn’t on Microsoft’s radar. However, a Blu-Ray drive has already been denied, and for good reason too. It would create confusion among buyers and developers alike. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it debuts in the next Xbox 360. As for the 1TB HDD, and a Quad-Core CPU, it seems like the perfect recipe for the X 720, don’t you agree?

Personally, in my time with the 360. One of the main reasons I sold it was by experience with RROD. I think they should fix that problem first, and then move onto to smaller factor.

I havenn’t bought a 360 yet because of this exact reason. I am waiting for the Jasper Motherboard then I will be ready to buy one. Ohh BTW I am not exactly sure but didn’t Zephyer come first and now were on Falcon instead of the other way around. Although I could be wrong. The one other thing people should be aware of is that the price drop rumor that is going to happen is only happening so they can Clear out the 20GB models so they can start selling the 60GB models. They are just clearing inventory that is why it’s only the Pro models and not the Arcade or Elite models also getting a price drop.

I’m not gonna sit here and defend msft and RROD by no means, but to those who still use that as an excuse for not owning a 360 need to get another reason. RROD was a huge problem I experienced it twice. But I now have a 360 with the falcon mobo and not only have I not had any problems with it; it’s actually quieter than my buddies 60gb ps3. I personally don’t see MSFT making a smaller 360 as RROD was caused by overheating so the current sized case with the smaller chips and mobo should help future 360’s jasper and vallhalla perform even better. I’m more excited about the games coming out for the 360 than I am about any console revisions. I’ll worry about the consoles again when the next gen starts.

got rrod my friend fixed it twice hopfully i will get it back working soon has for the ps3 got a psp and love it (like harry’s mum (she soooo good) iam sorry about that people but dick’s like harry just piss me off) but the ps3 is to dear in england and right now has not got any good games thats worth forking out over £400 quid for

ya rite…..ps3 sucks….xbox 360 rules they are way better….if they fix the red light problem they’ll go a way ahead of ps3…for now ps3 rules….after microsoft solves the red light problem then ps3 will suck cocks then xbox 360 will rule!
