Final Fantasy XIII Famitsu Review: Just Shy of Perfect

Japanese Gaming Magazine Famitsu has reviewed Final Fantasy XIII for a score of 39/40. Ouch, it missed out from being perfect just for 1 point. 🙁 The score was leaked onto the internet from a Hong Kong based forum. The final score is based upon aggregates from four reviewers who scored the game: 10/10, 9/10, 10/10 and 10/10.

Glad I’m not the second reviewer, whoever he is. 😀 His explanation for giving a 9/10 was “There’s a few niggling issues like battle damage being difficult to see, and the screen being cluttered … up until the mid-way point of the game, the story seemed [to] be linear and that it didn’t offer any new “gimmicks” in its story telling.”

Whatever the score might be, I’m not giving up on my expectations on it. I played FF X last month just to get a feel of the Final Fantasy universe and I consider FF XIII is one of my most highly anticipated games in 2010.

Difference between 360 and PS3 versions

In an interview in with Famitsu Square Enix confirmed that the video and audio is compressed on the Xbox 360 version while the Playstation 3 version will be uncompressed and appear on a dual-layer blu-ray disc. The 360 version will be released on multiple DVDs.

Final Fantasy XIII is set to release on March 2010. Here’s a scan of the review page:

Final Fantasy XIII is getting lukewarm reviews across all sites. Let’s see what score Gamespot and IGN gives the US version. I have my fingers crossed
