IGN Clarifies Mass Effect 2’s Strange Disc Swap System

Previously, we reported that Mass Effect 2 will span across 2 discs and will require a disc swap only once in the Xbox 360. But this is not the case anymore.

Bioware producer Jessie Hudson has told IGN that there are multiple disc swaps involved:

“Players will start with Disc 1 for the introduction and early level choices, then go through a funnel level of sorts, where they will need to switch to Disc 2.

From there they will play the middle portion of the game, which is mostly on Disc 2. Then after another funnel point in the story they’ll go back to Disc 1.

The decision was made due to the nature of having to go to two discs for what is a non-linear game and fitting the right amount of content onto each of the discs.

This way players won’t have to swap their discs multiple times during the middle of the game.”

Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition

The PC version comes with a 2 disc installation but does not require any disc swap whatsoever. On a side note, the collector’s edition comes in 3 disc and has extra goodies. Can your PC run Mass Effect 2? Check out the system requirements.

Mass Effect 2 will release on the PC & Xbox 360 on Jan 26 2010 (US) and Jan 29 2010 (EU).
