Qubee 1 Mbps Wimax Hands-on Impressions
I’m using a demo of Queebe’s 1 Mbps Wimax line. For those that don’t know about Wimax, it is a new wireless internet connectivity technology. Qubee provides you with a modem (priced at Tk 4,000) which receives wireless signals from Qubee’s tower. The higher up you place the modem, the better connection you can get.
I’m not going into a full review since just yesterday I got the connection. This is a demo connection, if I am unsatisfied, Qubee will refund the set-up price. They have a 7 day cash back guarantee. This is a really good feature since you can test it out beforehand.
Speedtest reports my speed at 1.07 Mb/s (or 136 KB/s) and ping is around 180ms. As you can tell, downloads are blazing fast and there is very little lag in online games.
My main complaint is the monthly usage limit (set around 20GB) for the 1 Mbps package. The lower packages (256 and 512 kbps Sky) does not have this limit. So, I may get that one instead.
Stay tuned for my next in-depth review, including details of Qubee’s infamous “fair usage policy”.

cz i live in lalbag .. 😥
Jan 22nd, 2010 at 8:36 pm
oh,and also,can i get a connection in jhigatola????
Jan 22nd, 2010 at 9:51 pm
@Abir & pollob
All Qubee packages are dedicated and you get (almost) full speed.
If you select 512 kbps package you will get (roughly) 512/8 = 64 KB/s all the time. Only time the speed drops is due to bad weather (and also the fact that there was heavy fog in last couple of days).
I don’t know whether they are available in your area, but their network is expanding. You can check the network coverage map @ http://www.qubee.com.bd/wheres-qubee/coverage
Stay tuned for a in-depth review. 😀

one word for qubee: Overpriced.
while I use zip for 30KBps average 24/7 @ 1000tk per month, qubee offers 28KBps at around I think 1400/1600 + set up fee of 4000tk…my setup was free 😛
zip pwns all isps, handsdown!

wow mushfiq vai great, i am also thinking of buying qubee 512 package, i have 3 questions though
1. do they allow p2p and torrent ?
2. does it disconnect like gp ?
3. how can u play it in 360 or ps3 ?
Jan 23rd, 2010 at 9:02 pm
@Mushfiq,
please tell us your experience with details, like if you face any DC problem, laggin in opening pages etc. Even better if you review the connection for 2/3 days.
@Upol, since it is not possible to get connected to internet by connecting the modem to the above mentioned consoles’ USB port- I guess you have to use a wireless router to get ’em connected.
Jan 24th, 2010 at 1:18 pm
@ Upol
1. They have a fair usage policy but did not say anything about P2P connection. You can use P2P and torrents but I’ll test it out thorougly and let you know in the final review.
2. No it hasn’t done it yet.
3. Connected the consoles using Cat5 cables through Hub (Qubee modem connected to Hub and shared to multiple PCs – they allow as many as you want to connect)

Bhaia,
have u connected qubee with ps3? If u did, did u face any problems? like seetings issues? cuz i want just bought the qubee modem and the installation guys are coming on sunday and i have a feeling that im goin to have to connect it to the ps3 myself. if u can just tell me the settings you used to get it to work properly. if u didnt connect it to the console, then can u please ask around a bit?
i would be grateful if u helped me a little.

@Adit
After the Qubee guys set up the modem, just connect it directly to the PS3’s ethernet port. No setup necessary, it’s that simple.

Hi Mushfiq and others,
Would you please come up with your in-depth review now? I’m concerned about “Fair Usage Policy”. My guess is, I cannot download bigger files using torrents and if I do – my bandwidth can be reduced or line could be disconnected. I’m interested in in getting 256kbps/unlimited.
Hoping to hear from you asap.

@sham
Sorry bro for not being able to post the review. Can’t get enough time to put it together. Besides, I’m waiting to see how their service is over a few days.
Anyway, I’ve talked with the guy who set up my connection about the fair usage policy. It only applies to the Sky package (those without the download limit).
He said that Qubee will “track” your connection on the fifth day of continous downloading (24/7 downloading). He also said that if you take a gap on the 4th day, Qubee won’t detect you. So, just to be on the safe side, you can expect to download straight for 3 days without any trouble. And besides, I’m assuming you won’t keep your PC running 24/7.
About torrents, that’s not a problem since they don’t track your bandwidth (and it would also be illegal due to privacy concerns). Till the review is published, you can ask your questions in the comments section and I’ll do my best to answer them.

I think torrent traffic may be throttled. At least, that’s how it is throughout the world.
Feb 11th, 2010 at 11:40 pm
Hey Mushfiq,
i would like to say something…the 256 and 512 KB package Qubee offers has a fair usage policy. Which means the previous download capacity is four times.
256 KB – previous download limit was 5 GB it has now become 20 GB
512 KB – previous download limit was 6 GB it has now become 24 GB.
Feb 12th, 2010 at 10:43 pm
@Sakib
I thought they allowed unlimited download on the 256 and 512 kbps Sky packages. 😕
Feb 13th, 2010 at 3:13 am
I may be wrong, it’s what Mr.Reza a guy from the gulshan-2 branch told me the day Qubee launched their sky packages.
When i herd that they are offering unlimited packages..i rushed to the Qubee office and was very disappointed when got to know about this.
Feb 13th, 2010 at 3:09 pm
@Sakib
My friends crossed 72GB using his 512kbps Qubee connection! Well, if u continuously keep on downloading stuffs 24/7, or download rigorously during peak hours (6pm-12am) that may harm others share of BW then they might take some actions! Otherwise, that’s not a big deal. The same case is with BanglaLion!
Feb 15th, 2010 at 11:48 pm
That is good to know swordenium =]
Mar 20th, 2010 at 12:15 am
Can I use Qubee’s Model letter for Bangla Lion? or

Hey wats the performance like in online gaming with the 256 kbps and 512kbps packages???Particularly with games like cs:source and dota????
Apr 5th, 2010 at 11:46 pm
Facts abt qubee:
ping delay : 300~2150!!! (wen playin pwi,cabal and RO)
fair usage policy applies, no continuous downloading for 72 hours straight.
good for normal usage, light downloading.
Games should get a wired connection, qubee ain’t good 4 that.
and no NAT for P2P. bit-torrent performance takes a hit if there ain’t a looooot of seeders.
Apr 22nd, 2010 at 2:47 am
Using Qubee for 4months(512) n downloading since then. I use Megaupload n rapidshare 24/7. Daily download is 5GB+. Till now no polices applied on me. Ping delay is a little high for playing Dota or seemlier(350ms+).
I’m very happy with there service.
