Will The Latest Rapture Adventure Sink Or Swim? BioShock 2 Reader Review
This a review by fellow Gamersworldbd reader, Shafquat A, also known as “TheSituation” in Gamersworldbd comments section and has been edited by me.
2K’s [highly]-anticipated title Bioshock 2, sequel to the super-hit Bioshock hit stores all across Bangladesh early February. With gamers excited about the next chapter set in underwater Rapture, not everything is similar when it comes to our second serving of Rapture.
Plot:
In Bioshock 2, you control a Big Daddy. Genetically enhanced humans programmed to protect Little Sisters, who harvests EVE from dead bodies. The game’s timeline is very unique since the game is both a sequel and a prequel. The single player campaign consist of solid 8 hours of gameplay on normal difficulty and is set after the events of the original.
The story driven Xbox Live multiplayer follows the events [preceding that] of the original Bioshock. Andrew Ryan is no more, and there is a new enemy Lamb. Characters and their voices from the previous [game[, appears throughout, [be it] physical appearances or via audio diaries.
Gameplay and Graphics:
The game looks and plays very much like the original title engine wise. Under the hood, the game runs on a highly modified version of Unreal Engine 3. Both the physics and AI dynamics works well on the 360 with occasional hiccups in framerates and weirdly some signs of freezes.
They also include the VSYNC option under the options menu, for gamers who do not care about screen tearing can turn of the VSYNC and enjoy a near 60fps gameplay.
The game’s native resolution is 720p on both the 360 and PS3.
Playing as the Big Daddy on the other hand is very different than controlling a human, you have the Drill hammer as your only [melee] and the most useful weapon in the game. The player also needs the essential plasmids, EVE and ADAM to survive the twisted campaign.
Firing the series new Rivet Gun while burning an enemy using plasmid with another hand provides one of the most satisfying combat experiences in an FPS title.
The AI is much more complex to predict and they attack in groups and surround you from all side. Enemies range from long ranged pistol or rifle chargers to splicers, other Big Daddies and the series new the BIG SISTER. Think King Kong vs. Godzilla as the fights are bigger, badder and much much more louder! But having unlimited re-spawns helps, thanks to the VITA- CHAMBERS which act like checkpoints throughout the game.
The hacking mechanism drops the pipe-matching mini-game and uses a much simpler version of a well-timed tap weapon.
The choice and consequence system in Bioshock 2 is a little more diverse, as based on your actions of either harvesting the sisters or saving them the game presents you with four [different] endings. Each based upon the intensity of choices you make throughout.
This game is one of those titles, which does not follow the clichéd progression rate of a FPS game. It is an action intensive game from the first 10 minutes of your journey till the last CGI scene. So puzzle lovers might be in for slight disappointment.
Sound and atmosphere:
The sound in Bioshock 2 should remind you of Bioshock, as the setting is the same but the background music phases in and out more frequently. The music phases into something much more nerve racking when facing multiple enemies, even more intense when facing a Big Sister and phases out of the combat music and into the easy/calm tracks when exploring empty corridors or walking underwater looking for the next door.
The set pieces in Bioshock 2, although nothing special when compared to other fps in the same genre, manages to maintain a dark and sinister feel throughout. Collectables in the game are not kept on a shelf decorated with a welcome sign on it. Rather they are all cleverly hidden as loot in crack in a wall or inside a big daddy’s inventory. Or they appear as rewards after a epic Big Daddy fight.
To conclude, Bioshock 2 is beautifully rendered, has a satisfying campaign and plenty of achievements to keep the gamers replaying. With no offline multiplayer support, Bangladesh gamers might shelf the game after the game has been beaten and all the achievements are received.
A must buy for all Xbox 360 FPS lovers, our second visit to Rapture was a swell one.
My rating:

Gameplay: 8
TOTAL: 8/10

I do not know why I’m not feeling interest in playing Bioshock 2! The story or fighting or even graphics is not attracting me 🙁 The review says it’s even better and attractive then Bad Company 2… But I’m smelling just the opposite.
NB: I have not played Bioshock 1.

Dear Gaming Wiz,
It’s been a long time since you updated the site, The Gamers World BD used to be a great gaming blog…
But now, It seems like it’s almost dead…
I mean, It really lacks the regular maintenance & specially the lack of articles & news…
Can’t you update the site more often(& regularly)?
It’ll be great if the site gets updated regularly just like before….

@Zahidur
Bro, If you’re looking for the ps3 version of Red Dead Redemption, Then you might have to wait a few more days, Since multiplatform ps3 games takes some time to arrive in Bangladesh.
It also happened to me & I can easily remember, Last time When I visited dhaka, I was looking for Final Fanstasy XIII for the ps3, Since the xbox 360 version comes with 3 discs(which means a great hassle!) & I heard(from all the reviews) that the graphics are better in the ps3 version. So, I decided to get the ps3 version of the game. But I didn’t find it since it was a newly released title at that time. And all the shopkeepers told me that it’ll be available after a few days. But the xbox 360 version was all over the shops.
So, Likewise, The ps3 version of RDR can also take a little bit time to arrive in Bangladesh.
Anyway, I hope you’ll get your copy as soon as it is available in the local market.
En passant, Red Dead Redemption is awesome & surely its the best game of 2010 till now. I’m currently playing it right now & having a lot of fun !
I hope you’ll also enjoy the game(when you get to play it!) as much as I’m doing !
Jun 11th, 2010 at 12:27 pm
@Sng425

Jun 11th, 2010 at 7:50 pm
@Rabbi
Yeah, bro. Today I got the psp version of it. And I’m going to get the xbox 360 version tommorow.
Anyway, I’ll be very exulted if Argentina wins against Nigeria tommorow. What about you?
Jun 12th, 2010 at 2:14 am
@Sng425
same day but its for the case of england but it will be difficult none the less.We all know USA is a much better team than Nigeria even beat Spain last year in the confederation cup also reached the final but lost to Brazil 2-3.Didnt even see todays matches that much was playing Fifa World Cup 2010 yeah that suits much better :lol:.
Note: USA were 2-0 at half time 😯 of the confederation cup final.
Jun 12th, 2010 at 2:16 am

Jun 12th, 2010 at 11:41 am

Jun 12th, 2010 at 11:47 am
@Sng425
I will wait for the Red Dead Redemption PC version
Source:
http://www.softsailor.com/news/20406-red-dead-redemption-pc-version-confirmed.html
Rockstar told the same thing at the same time of 2008 for GTA IV pc version “at this point there are no plans to bring RDR to the PC, but if those change, fans will be notified.”

@Rabbi
Undoubtedly, USA is much better than Nigeria, And its really going to be difficult for England to beat them.
However, The odds are still in England’s favor. And they do have the ability to beat USA. But they still need to be careful, ‘Cause We never know what might happen !
Anyway, Lets hope for the best, bro ! I hope that England will do better today & probably win the match against USA.
Jun 12th, 2010 at 3:11 pm
@Sng425
same here optimistic hopes for england through out the tournament :mrgreen:.
Jun 13th, 2010 at 7:48 pm
@Rabbi
Bro, Rockstar did the same thing for Gta IV also ! So, I’m pretty sure that they are going to release a pc version of it ! And there’s no doubt that we’re going to see John Marston in pc very soon ! 😛
However, Red Dead Redemption is currently a console exclusive & it is only released for Xbox 360 & PS3 !
Jun 14th, 2010 at 12:54 am
@sng425
i think the pc version will release in late 2010 or by 1st half of 2011 if rockstar has plans for pc version deep down.
