How To Jailbreak iPod Touch/iPhone Firmware 3.3.1 On Windows 7
Today I have successfully Jailbreak’d my iPod Touch running firmware 3.1.3 and I’ll show you how to do it in just five easy steps using Spirit Jailbreak (SpiritJB for short).
You can also do this for your iPhone running the same firmware 3.1.3.
There are other tools, but none is as reliable and user-friendly as SpiritJB. And most other Jailbreak tools gave me crashes or required registry hacking to work under Windows 7 64 bit.
So, after trying unsuccessfully for 8 hours, SpiritJB did the trick in less than five minutes.
A note: I’ve tested this only on firmware 3.1.3. If you don’t have this firmware, plug-in your iPod to iTunes and it will automatically tell you to update.
Here’s how to Jailbreak your iPod Touch/iPhone running firmware 3.1.3 under Windows 7 64 bit:
1. Download SpiritJB for Windows and save it to a location of your choice
2. Right click on the SpiritJB application and select “Properties”.
3. Go to “Compatibility” screen.
Check the box saying “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select “Windows 98/ME.
Also check the box saying “Run this program as an administrator”. and hit OK.
4. Open SpiritJB and if you get a Windows UAC prompt click on “Yes”.
Connect your iPod/iPhone and hit “Jailbreak”
5. SpiritJB will do its thing. Your iPod/iPhone screen will look like the one below. It is essential that you keep your device connected until SpiritJB does its job.
You’re done! Your iPod/iPhone is now Jailbroken.
Where to get Apps for you iPod/iPhone:
Use the “Cydia” app from your Jailbroken device
Download apps from Apptrackr
Messed up iPod/iPhone. Reset instructions:
If you’ve done something wrong and your device seems to hang, don’t panic! I messed up during the Jailbreak process but it is very easy to recover:
Hold down the “Home” and “Power” buttons simultaneously for a few seconds. You device will turn off.
Connect your device to your PC’s USB port while holding down the “Home” button only.
Start iTunes and it will give you instructions on how to “Restore” your deivce.

Man, you wouldn’t believe what pains I had to go through for Jailbreaking. Managed to BSOD my Win 7 and had to do system restore at 3 am. Today afternoon I found this nifty app that just did it in five mins flat. I’m not sure whether I’m relieved or plain upset at myself. 😈
My iPod doesn’t support i OS4, so it wasn’t possible to do that.
