Nintendo Reports First Half-Year Net Loss in Seven Years Due To Weak Sales And 3DS Delay

Nintendo has reported that it made a loss for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, largely because of a strong yen, weaker sales of the Wii and the company’s games, and a delay in the launch of the 3DS handheld gaming system.

For the April-September period, Nintendo reported loss of ¥2.01 billion ($24.7 million) versus a profit of ¥69.5 billion ($854.6 million) during the same period the year prior.

According to the Wall Street Journal, this represents Nintendo’s first net loss in the fiscal first half in the last seven years.

Nintendo’s six-month revenue was also down year-over-year, falling 33.7 percent from ¥363.2 billion ($4.5 billion) from ¥548.1 billion ($6.7 billion).
