How To Make Your PC Faster For Free

Today I got a reader question saying that his PC is too slow and ways he can make it faster without spending money. I have previously written quite an in-depth article on how to make your slow PC run faster, but here are the top 5 tips to do it:

1. Run a hard disk defragment app such as Disk Defrag free. Windows boots up much faster and my game load times decreased significantly when I defragmented my hard drive.

2. Update Windows and your drivers, especially video card drivers. If you are a gamer and your games run slow, then the best way to speed up your PC is by upgrading to the latest video card drivers.

Also, Microsoft is continually pushing out new updates to Windows to plug security holes and make your computer run faster. Make sure you have automatic Windows updates turned on.

3.  Run a virus scan. If you do not have an antivirus installed, you can get a free online virus scanner.

4. Clean the temporary Windows folder and save disk space. This also helps to run your PC faster. Use a free program like cCleaner.

5. Re-install Windows. If it has been a few years since you installed Windows, you can consider re-installing it. This will surely give your slow PC a boost in speed as all old programs and registries are wiped and your PC is in a fresh new state and will be much faster.
