Stop Hating EA, Folks
EA is akin to Microsoft these days. No matter what they do, one fact remains, they are evil and just exist to spin off franchises and make a quick buck. Sure, I too sneer at yearly sequels like Harry Potter and The Lord of The Rings, but they put out some superb games. Take, for example, The Orange Box. It’s the single best game collection and hands down would win my game of the year award. Take a look at Spore, have you seen anything as fun as that? Then there is Rock Band, it’s getting highly acclaimed reviews.
I know, EA didn’t make those games. But they are publishing them, aren’t they? When EA bought up independent studio BioWare, the whole internet went up in flames. But will it stop BioWare from making great games? I hardly think so. One of my earliest and my most favorite game of all time was Need For Speed II. It was surely a blast to play them in the Windows 98 era, and I still have fun now. The last time I checked, it was developed and published by Electronic Arts.
It’s business, folks. They’ve have to do everything in their power to remain profitable. Unless they can pay a good chunk of profit back to their shareholders, there’s going to be a shake up in their board of directors. Yes, you can complain that their whole Sports line series of games are highly un-innovative, and I agree. But someone must be buying them. If none of us didn’t, they wouldn’t make crappy Madden year and year on end.
The point is this, give EA a chance. And even after they screw up, give ’em the smackdown. Am I the only one here? Not so. Check out this article.

Dont know why people forget, one of the two most innovative games of the year, Mirror’s Edge.

Forgot about it myself. 😀

The Orange Box was not at all EA.
Granted, I don’t know the story behind Rock Band and Spore (although I am inclined to believe from what I’ve read, they helped produce Spore) so I won’t comment there.
I don’t really think EA is that evil, as it is a business, but I do say they have added value to the market (including games I’ve played and liked), even if I’m not a fan of every game they make (i.e. sports games).

@ Yert
Agreed, they did publish those right? And the Orange Box is totally Valve’s work, don’t know if they had contribution behind it. Same goes for Spore. And isn’t Mirror’s Edge being developed by DigitalIllusions, the guys who did the awesome Battlefield?
If you look closely, you can find that EA did “publish” some major games, even if they didn’t make ’em.

The bottom line, EA’s internal devs suck.

Although, dont imagine a year going with EA products, especially FIFA. Which managed to make a higher leap to next-gen than Pro Evolution.
