No Need For Xbox 720, PS4 Or Wii 2 Yet, Says THQ CEO
THQ president Brian Farrell has refuted calls for a new generation of consoles.
“Frankly, the last thing I think the industry needs now is new hardware,” the publisher’s CEO told IGN. “You look at the games coming out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 now and they look stunning.”
“What’s the proposition for the person shelling out the $300-$400 for the system and the $60 for a game, what is value proposition for that gamer?”
“Better graphics? They’re pretty darn good now… Where it’s going to be is in the play experience; richer stories, better characters, production values that are much more like movies.”
“I think that’s the direction, rather than technology and graphics. I think those days are over.”
Pointing at the increased costs new consoles would entail for hardware-makers and game developer alike, he claimed that “to have an extended cycle with a broader audience I think, strategically, is exactly the right way to go.
“Move and Kinect are both designed to do that.”

I agree.. games are not just about technology and graphics it also needs a good story. like one of my all time favorite Shadow of the Colossus, Diablo (series)……so what i think is games should have a decent storyline and a good game play mechanics……… and if the game is packed with very good graphics then its a bonus ………….. 🙂

but i think games should be released on all platforms together….
cuz.. just look at me im a fan of gears of war, god of war and Diablo at the same time. but a few months back (maybe a year) my
xbox360 got RROD. I’ve fixed it for a few times finally the problem has permanent.So gears 3 is over for me….
SO, yeah games should be released on all platforms cuz u play games to enjoy a good quality time like watching a good movie
(games r more dan dat)…..and publisher can get more profit… 🙂

@zeus
Sorry to hear that your Xbox 360 got RRoD. My first one (premium 20GB) got the RRoD too. Now got an Elite and they are much more reliable.
But yeah, I agree. Developing new console technology takes a lot of money. And PS3 has only recently become profitable, before they were making a loss on each PS3 sold.
However, the Kinect and Move can be considered as new (mini) consoles.
