Microsoft Planning Web TV Service For Xbox 360

Microsoft is in talks with media companies to bring TV channels on the Xbox 360 via Xbox Live according to Reuters. This will compete directly with Google TV and Apple TV.

Not many details have surfaced but you could use the Xbox 360 as a “virtual cable operator” to get channels and pay a monthly fee. The Xbox 360 could also be used to offer increased interactivity for current cable TV subscribers. Microsoft could also offer individual channels like HBO or Showtime.

Much else is known about Microsoft’s plans to bring TV service to the Xbox 360 and it’s unlikely we will see anything for 12 months.
