“Higher Priced Kinect” Outselling PlayStation Move, Says Analyst

Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter believes that Microsoft’s Kinect has overtaken the sales of Sony’s PlayStation Move, even though the former is “higher priced”.

The Move starter pack is priced at $100 and Kinect at $150.

“Interestingly, the higher priced Kinect controller appears to have overtaken the Move controller in the sales race, with sales about even notwithstanding Move’s six-week head start in the marketplace,” he said in his latest investor note.

Michael Pachter believes that both Kinect and Move will have a combined install base of 8 million units. He also predicts that Microsoft will drop it’s price of the 4GB Xbox 360 to $250 in Spring 2011, from it’s current price of $300. Sony will follow suit with a $300 PS Move bundle.

The price drop, Pachter predicts, will result in the combined install base to reach 20-25 million by the end of 2011.

Microsoft had announced that it sold 2.5 million Kinects in its first 25 days and Sony announced that it had shipped 4.1 million Moves since its launch.

Reports suggest that Kinect costs $56 for Microsoft to make whereas Move costs $38 For Sony to manufacture.

Even then, Sony’s PlayStation move is currently dominating the Bangladeshi market and retailers are yet to stock on Kinect.

One Response to ““Higher Priced Kinect” Outselling PlayStation Move, Says Analyst”

  1. It’s inevitable. 😈 Kinect is a revolutionary technology whereas Move is a more-accurate Wii. Of course Kinect will sell well since it has raised consumers interest and the big bucks MS spent behind advertising. 😈
