The recently announced Gran Turismo 5 1.03 update added “none”, “light” and “heavy” mechanical damage. However, to clear up the confusion, the mechanical damage feature is only available in online races. It’s not available in single-player mode, nor the arcade mode.
As promised by Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, the latest Gran Turismo 5 1.03 update adds support for mechanical damage. The patch clocks in at 150MB. News came today that Gran Turismo 5 had toppled Call of Duty: Black Ops to become the number 1 selling game in UK with an estimated 1.8 million copies sold worldwide. This also means that Gran Turismo 5 has recorded the sixth biggest launch of any PS3 game in the UK. via CVG
