Reader Question: Playing Original Games On Modded Xbox 360, Will I Get Banned?
I received an interesting email from Gamersworldbd reader Samin Alam. He writes: “I play original discs. Is there any problem with [the fact] that my console was modded when i bought it? I always wanted to play Xbox Live and that’s why I bought the 360 for.”
Well Samin, Xbox Live can also detect whether your Xbox 360 is modded or not in addition to detecting “backup” games.
Without knowing what sort of mod chip or flashed firmware you have, I can’t say for sure. But just to be on the safe side I don’t recommend going to Xbox Live with a modded Xbox 360.
If you sign in to Xbox Live, you will be required to update to the Kinect Dashboard and that will detect whether your Xbox 360 is modded or not.
Plus, in the chance that you are detected, your gamer profile will be corrupted. You will not be able to transfer your profile, save games to another console as it simply won’t work. Plus, you’ll lose the ability to install games to the HDD. More at Reader Question: What To Do After Xbox 360 Is Banned From Xbox Live.
You say that you play original games and that’s awesome! But Xbox Live can detect your modded Xbox 360, unless you are using a “stealth” mod chip.
In the off chance that you played “backup” games on your Xbox 360, your console will remember that and flag you for a ban the moment you sign into Xbox Live. This can be avoided if you play Xbox 360 games that are “stealth patched”.

so wat exactly do i have to do to make it ‘stealth patched’?
someone else told me something about the x value thingy and told me it was clean.anyways i bought this console 1 month ago. 😮

Mushfiq Brah, are you tellng us that the consoles which have Physical mod chip can avoid Microsoft’s detection of whether the console is modded or not?
After Microsoft let users use USB flash drives to use to install games, move profiles and game saves (still certain game saves cannot be transferred), things seem to have become easier for modders.
One successful application is XTAF Xplorer (version .006). It lets your Profile to be saved on your PC- and you can do alot of things with that saved profile.
My profile (10 MB in size) was backed up recently successfully.
There are a number of ways to Uncorrupt your profile flagged for ban.
* con remover
* profile editor
* Modio. Modio lets your avatar and other stuffs mod in an extensive ways.
However I do not know if they’re successful or not.
Assuming your modded console is properly stealth patched (physical mod chip) it may not be possible for Microsoft to detect if it is a modded one or not.
Last year, 2009’s ban wave, Game Source was in panick because lots of Xbox would not boot MW 2 and AC II. But I inserted AC II disk, updated to as per instruction and played without being flagged.
But sure thing the Kinect dashboard will do is not to boot up that game disk and flag your console for being banned.
So, LT+ is our best bet for both modded console+original disk and modded console+backup games. :p

Another tricky question:
If one has modded console and (because of uncertainty) bought an original AC: B, the console would update it to Kinect Dashboard
But
would not it play that original game disk cause it has AP 2.5 bypass check validity. And if so the disk has AP 2.5 then how come the dashboard flag it to being flagged next time one connects to XBL?
Nov 19th, 2010 at 11:51 pm
@ Reza
If u have a legit/original game than it wont flag ur console. The Ap 2.5 only flags your console when you play pirated/backup discs. If you play legit games on your modded xbox with kinect update it won’t flag or do anything wrong with your console……

@01saminXtreme10
You must know what type of mod chip you have. Do you have a physical mod chip or only a flashed firmware drive? Some mod chips have “stealth mode” and can be turned off while connecting to Xbox Live. You can’t know for sure unless you ask the shop you bought the console from.
You can check whether your Xbox 260 has been flagged for a ban by using Xval at http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EkVlyZyFluvBpsPeAC.php
I haven’t used Xval because one of my 360s that I connect to Xbox Live is not modded and I play all originals on that one, same as you.
And “stealth patch” is used in “backup” games. Since you play originals, you don’t need to worry about this.
@Enamur Reza
Yup, stealth mod chips can avoid detections. But this is a hit and miss thing and MS is constantly updating to detect mods.
I copied all my profiles, saves, videos from my 20GB HDD to my PC and transferred it when I upgraded to the 120 GB Elite. I didn’t have MS’s data transfer cable then, used a third party cable and used Xport 360.
Don’t know about how to un-corrupt your Gamer profile though.
Original AP 2.5 games work on modded consoles. Users who reported that Fable 3 got the “Unreadable Disc Error” due to AP 2.5, could play the original game just fine.
However, the latest Kinect Dashboard update detects previous firmware/mod chips (not all), so, it may ban you regardless of what game you play.
@fahim_sinister
Microsoft can also detect mod chips and flashed firmware regardless of whether you play original or “backup” games. Stealth mode solves this problem.

Another thing, have you received Black Ops yet that I sent you? They told me it would take some time as everything is closed due to Eid.

Nov 26th, 2010 at 5:31 pm
@Rober Raos
“Ive dowloaded assassins creed brotherhood and with it i updated the new dashbord,but AC brotherhood dosnt work.”
Sorry. Your console has been flagged for a ban as you tried playing Brotherhood and didn’t work due to AP 2.5. So, next time you go online, your Xbox 360 will be banned. Don’t go online with that console.
Nov 26th, 2010 at 5:51 pm
Can i still update new updates if i am banned,and can they make me debbaned or something,or some software so they dont think i am banned or somethig
Nov 26th, 2010 at 5:59 pm
@Rober Raos
Everything will work fine but you can’t log in to Xbox Live. There isn’t any method to un-ban your console AFAIK.
Nov 26th, 2010 at 7:26 pm
And with a new Firmware or Ixtreme wich let me play Ac brotherhood will then i able to play online.So there is nothing ik can do to play online,simplay nothing?
Nov 26th, 2010 at 7:26 pm
@pagla07,
add me, my gamer tag is
tobrolivnt and
tobrolivnt1…
just to let you know since i have a modded xbox 360 and my gold subscription is over, so i aint going online untill the ban waves are over…
anyway what internet do you use?? Do have gta 4 or COD Black ops…cause i’d really like to play those games online with you.
Nov 26th, 2010 at 7:34 pm
@Robert Raos,
how many times you’ve tried to play AC brotherhood and it didn’t work?? If 1 or 2 , then there is still a chance that you will not be flag for a ban, but that is if your extremely lucky…anyway most probably your console has been flagged for a ban and you will be banned at the end of the year most probably christmas..But with the new firmware you can play the AP2.5 games like assassin’s creed brotherhood,nfs hot pursuit(2010), but you must patch your AP2.5 games for that..check this article to learn how to patch your AP2.5 games

Hmm, mushfiq, could you please write a guide for us to how to effectively download and play pirated games on our XBOX 360 ensuring that we are taking the best possible measures to not get banned??
I would really help out alot of people 🙂

@Arthies
I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks for the tip.

Hi people >.>b
So, am I safe to assume that as long as I don’t go online, my XBOX 360 will never be banned? I am currently in BD, but may go out sooner or later, so until then no online for me 🙁
Also, if LT+ comes out, and my XBOX was flagged for a ban, will that unflag the console?
Dec 5th, 2010 at 6:07 pm
@mashinator
Yup. But it is better to be cautious and not get flagged, in case you decide to connect to XBL sometime in the future. Also, LT+ has been released http://www.gamersworldbd.com/2010/11/xbox-360-firmware-ixtreme-lt-officially-released-on-benq-and-liteon-drives.html
Dec 5th, 2010 at 10:54 pm
WAIT A MINUTE!
LT+ has been released?!? Can my 360 be modded( 360 slim variant, not sure about the dvd, haven’t disassembled my xbox)??
How can I find out?? should I take it to SOF??
Dec 5th, 2010 at 11:34 pm
@
LT+ for Slim 360 hasn’t been released yet but it will be released soon.

Alright, I’l be looking around!

Good read!
Anyway I am on a Liteon LT+ (previously flashed with LT), no ban as of yet. And I don’t stealth patch my games. And there is a valid reason for it too: basically back in 2009 microsoft initiated a ban wave, this mechanism is a network based analysis on our console’s security sectors. Not only is it capital intensive on microsoft’s part but also very expensive to pull off for them.
SO, individual players like you or me playing modded games in bangladesh over live will NOT get banned overnight. There has to be a ban wave, microsoft skipped the banwave in 2010 and introduced the new ap 2.5 protection as it is a much more cheaper anti piracy technique.
Current microsoft banning patterns shows you can get banned for using JTAGed 360s, modding games, Call of duty hacks and also profile hacking. Banning occurs within 4 hours or your next sign in.
This is purely my experience of the whole situation, and just thought of sharing.

@TheSituation
good tips btw, still i would prefer to stay online using stealth patched disc cuz it procrastinate the banning process. In my opinion, its better to stay away from live during the last 4 months of they year just to be on the safe side 🙄
Feb 4th, 2011 at 12:27 am
@Rabbi
“its better to stay away from live during the last 4 months of they year just to be on the safe side :roll:”
Yeah, that makes sense. But since MS didn’t launch the ban wave last year, it could strike anytime soon. So, I guess it’s better to keep our heads down.
Feb 4th, 2011 at 1:14 am
@TheSituation,
I also don’t stealth patch my games.
Feb 5th, 2011 at 4:23 pm
um… i’ve got a problem. i got the new 360 250gb slim, i was playing fifa 11 on it for some time (3 and a half hrs) aftr turning the console off, i noticed that there were random scratches on the disk. (I DID NOT MOVE THE CONSOLE WHILE PLAYING)
